How to Choose
Choosing your TV Stand
What's the right TV stand for me? You want a TV stand that is made to mount the TV that you purchased. What type of TV do you
have? Plasma TV, LCD Plasma, Projection TV or a traditional Tube TV? Regardless of the type of TV you have, we have your stand, mount,
or Entertainment center. There are a few things you should think about before you make your purchase, however. Know your TV
dimensions (height, width, and depth), your TV weight, and where you would like to mount it. Safety should be your primary
consideration. Finally, you want a TV stand will look great in the area you are mounting it. So think about the material
and color while making your choice.
Choosing Your TV Stand By TV Type
Plasma/LCD Stands
Plasma and LCD TV stands are built to hold Plasma and LCD TVs. These TV stands are usually wider than regular TV stands.
This is because many Plasma TVs are much wider than they are deep.
DLP/Projection TV Stands
TV stands made to hold DLP (Digital Light Projection) TV’s are usually very similar to Plasma stands. DLP TVs are often
lighter than Plasma or LCD TVs. For this reason, the shape and size of TV stands that can work with DLP TVs are also
wider than regular TV stands.
Tube TV Stands
The most traditional type of TV is the CRT (cathode-ray tube) TV. These TVs are large and heavy. Tube TV stands are usually deeper and squarer
than Plasma Stands due to the bulkiness of the TV. All Tube TVs are heavy, even if the TV is relatively small, so it is important that the TV stand be
able to support the full weight of the TV. Choosing Your TV Stand by TV Size (View TV Stands by TV Size). The most important factor in choosing your
new TV stand is the size of your TV. Your TV should be able to fit comfortably on top of the TV stand without overlapping the sides. It should also be
centered on the stand. This will ensure greater levels of safety.
Large TVs (More than 51-inches wide)
Large TVs are very popular now and become more cost effective as new technologies emerge and prices drop. TVs over 51-inches wide are usually
Plasma or DLP TVs. Due to the investment placed into the TV, think of the mount you purchase as additional protection insurance. Don't skimp on the
mount or stand. Remember - safety first!
Mid-Size TVs (30 to 50-inches wide)
There is more flexibility when purchasing a stand or mount for a Mid-Size TV. (Measured diagonally across the screen). The primary concern is you
don't purchase one that is too small based on the weight and size of the TV.
Small TVs (Less than 30-inches wide)
Almost any mount or stand will work for a Small TV. You can even purchase a stand that will accommodate other accessories - like A/V equipment,
picture frames, etc.
TV Cabinets
TV cabinets are great for multimedia storage. They usually have several drawers and cabinet doors that allow you to organize and store objects such
as CDs, DVDs, or video games.
Corner TV Stands
Corner TV allow your TV to stand deep in the corner of a room. In rooms with multiple doorways and windows, it's nice to have an alternative
location to place your TV.
Open Shelf TV Stands
Open shelf TV stands are more modern in their design and portray a more open-air look. These shelves are easy to clean and maintain.
Swivel TV Stands
Swivel TV stands allow you adjust the view of your TV based on the number of people viewing the TV and their location in the room. It's the safest
way to avoid damage to your TV and possible injury if attempting to move your TV on a non-swivel stand.
Choosing Your TV Stand by Finish
We offer TV stands in many colors to help you find the one that best matches your home décor. Black TV stands are always the most popular
because they not only go well with most other colors of additional furniture pieces, but also because most TVs are black. Silver is another popular
color choice for TV stands, as many TV's also are finished in silver. Most TV stands are constructed from wood, glass, or metal and often contain
combinations of two of these types of materials. Wood TV stands are sturdy and are popular due to the popularity of wood in decorating living rooms,
Family rooms, etc. Glass TV stands are generally constructed from thick safety glass and are very durable. Metal TV stands are sturdy and can
assist in delivering better sound quality.
Choosing Your TV Stand by Dimensions
The rule of thumb when purchasing your TV stand is be sure your TV’s dimensions are smaller than the TV stand's dimension. Other things to keep in mind are
the weight of your TV and the overall dimensions of the TV and TV stand will accommodate the area you intend to place it. Measure the area before you make
your purchase.
